A guide to what’s on offer 17/18

There is a wide variety of winter training available throughout the IOCA regional training, the RYA and a number of clubs.  The dates for all of the training will be added to the IOCA South calendar as they become available.

IOCA Regional Training

This year IOCA South will be running the same regional training program in 2 locations: Spinnaker SC (Saturdays) and Bosham SC (Sundays).  Andy Kerr will be Head Coach for both sets of training, ensuring that a consistent level of high quality training is provided in both locations.  The program will be the same (subject to adjustments needed to accommodate local conditions), providing sailors with the option to choose the most convenient location/dates for them.

IOCA South Pre-Zone Training (Spinnaker)

This training runs on 6 Saturdays at Spinnaker Sailing Club, Ringwood, and is ideal for sailors who are doing winter training for the first time.  As a practical minimum children taking part must have their own boat and be able to comfortably sail a triangular course in a range of conditions and be willing to race on the water.

Provisional Dates: 28/10/17, 25/11/17, 09/12/17, 20/01/18, 24/02/18, 24/03/18

Training dates are also in the IOCA South calendar.

Entry will open soon!

The price for the winter training has gone up this year, and this is partly due to introducing paid preparatory time for the Head Coach.  This is standard practice for RYA run coaching, and will help us to improve the quality of the training that we can provide.

IOCA South Pre-Zone Training (Bosham)

This training runs on 6 Sundays at Bosham Sailing Club, and is ideal for sailors who are doing winter training for the first time.  As a practical minimum children taking part must have their own boat and be able to comfortably sail a triangular course in a range of conditions and be willing to race on the water.

Dates: 22/10/17, 19/11/17, 03/12/17, 21/01/18, 18/02/18, 18/03/18

Club Based Training

A number of clubs run winter training that is open to non-members.  Note:  Hayling Island, Lymington and Parkstone are all sea-based venues.  If we have another windy winter, conditions can be quite challenging.  For sailors who are less confident in windy conditions, the IOCA pre-zone training at Burghfield and Spinnaker may be more suitable.
